Rock and Role Play - A History of Tribute Bands (Thursday 1 - 3pm)Info Location Contact More Info Event Information![]()
DescriptionPlease note that the ‘last booking’ date is only a guide. Courses may close earlier. In order to avoid disappointment, please be sure to enrol as soon as possible. Registrations may not be processed until the following day if received after 3pm. Bjorn Again, The Bootleg Beatles, The Counterfeit Stones and Fake That are among the growing number of tribute bands currently in circulation. Although music tributes play a major role in the entertainment industry, little serious research has been published on the subject. This course explores the historical evolution of tribute entertainment, looking at some earlier examples such as ‘ghost’, cover and parody bands. We will consider why tribute artists are so popular and how developments in technology have aided their creation. Critical opinions on the merits of tribute acts will be discussed to see why they are loved or hated. The course offers an opportunity to gain deeper insight into the fascinating world of those who dedicate their lives to recreating the music and identity of famous artists and their fans.
