Course Description

The course will offer updates on how to approach and manage commonly seen conditions in the morning before moving onto case-based discussions and practical sessions in the afternoon. Ophthalmology lectures will cover aspects of uveitis, cataracts and common neoplasia while Dermatology will look at a review of sampling techniques, advances in the treatment of sarcoids and pruritus, as well as an update on the diagnosis and management of cutaneous masses and neoplasia.

The practical sessions in the afternoon will allow delegates to develop essential diagnostic and practical skills in equine dermatology, gaining hands on experience in obtaining samples and the approach to cytological diagnosis in the field, including staining and microscopy techniques. Delegates will also have the opportunity to informally discuss management of challenging dermatology and ophthalmology cases in practice, including ophthalmic findings from pre-purchase examinations. Delegates are encouraged to use clinical cases from their own practice as topics of interest in these discussion-based sessions.

Course Learning Outcomes:

·       Develop improved understanding of common ocular pathology and the current treatment options available.

·       Recognise, discuss and evaluate ophthalmic conditions seen during the Pre Purchase Examination and advise on potential significance.

·       Develop and demonstrate an improved sampling and diagnostic approach to dermatology cases in practice.
