Description

Many Ancient cultures flourished in Peru including the Nazca who were famous for their lines and glyphs near the coast. The last of the native cultures was that of the Incas who created an empire that dominated the Pacific Coast and the Andes. Then in the 1530s the Spanish under the ferocious Pizarro brothers arrived and within a few years the Inca Empire was no more. Spectacular ruins such as those at Machu Picchu are a testament to their sophistication.
