The Prison Writings of Jim Phelan (Monday 11am - 1pm)Info Location Attendee Categories Contact More Info Event Information
DescriptionBorn in Dublin in 1895, the working-class writer Jim Phelan led an eventful life until his death in 1966. In the early decades of the twentieth century, Phelan spent a short spell in Liverpool. His time in the city ended in 1923 after his participation in the robbery of a Post Office resulted in his conviction for murder. The courts sentenced Phelan to death, but the punishment was eventually commuted to penal servitude for life. Phelan served thirteen and half years of a life sentence in some of England’s harshest prison regimes. Upon his release he wrote about various subjects, including his incarceration. All notices of cancellation must be made in writing by email to [email protected] or [email protected] Course Transfers Your enrolment is for a specific course. Very occasionally students find they need to transfer to a different course. This happens most frequently in languages when the chosen study level is not the most appropriate for a student’s prior knowledge. Transfers can only be made for good reason, at the discretion of the department and subject to availability of course places. All course transfers must take place within 2 weeks of classes starting, in line with University regulations. |
