Dr Rachel Little: Consultant in Orthodontics, Speciality Lead and Chair of the Mersey, Cheshire and North Wales Consultant Orthodontic Group

Who Should Attend? 

The course is suitable for all GDC registered dentists with an interest in orthodontics and the developing dentition, including GDP's, Community Dental services, postgraduate students, DCT’s and Speciality Trainees.

Course Description

Aim: To understand how to work with, refer to, and manage interesting cases, of paediatric dentistry and orthodontics teams, relevant and frequently encountered in primary care. It will be set in a group environment with a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the event delegates will be able to:

·       Discuss the management of impacted incisors and compromised first permanent molars

·       Identify circumstances when interceptive orthodontics may be beneficial

·       Explain the role of the dentist in diagnosis of needs, IOTN, referral and orthodontic retention

·       Describe indications & appropriate referrals to hospital and specialist and MDT dental services

·       Prevent, recognise & manage complications that may arise when awaiting referral

·       Explain strategies for multidisciplinary management and appropriate case selection to enhance your patients’ and practice experience

·       Reflect on cases to illustrate how primary care management can enhance your practice
