Neutrons: Detection and modelling

Info

Course Information

physics

This course aims to give students a practical and theoretical knowledge of neutrons, their interaction with materials and their detection.

Course Code

PHYS 807
Course Description

This module is aimed at those working in the nuclear industry and in any industrial sector where there is a requirement for radiation detection. Delegates are likely to be early/mid-career and seeking progression. By the end of the course delegates will be able to describe the origins and nature of neutrons, and examine their interaction with matter, understand the use of the Monte Carlo N-Particle transport code (MCNP)software package for the simulation of nuclear processes and gain an appreciation of various detection and modelling techniques used throughout the industry.
