A SPIRAL ARCHITECT: John Foster, Junior of Liverpool: An Appreciation (Saturday 10am - 4pm)Info Location Attendee Categories Contact More Info Event Information![]()
DescriptionPlease note that the ‘last booking’ date is only a guide. Courses may close earlier. In order to avoid disappointment, please be sure to enrol as soon as possible. Registrations may not be processed until the following day if received after 3pm. The life’s work of Liverpool architect John Foster, Junior has generally been overlooked, in part because so few of his magnificent civic projects survive in the contemporary environment; but also because in their studied utility, these projects were considered by critics to be more functional than artistic. This of course, is total nonsense. The Oratory at St. James Mount (1829) may just be one of the greatest reinterpretations of Greek Revival architecture anywhere in Europe. The Custom House, a local landmark bigger than St. George’s Hall, stood watch over Liverpool’s dockland for generations until WWII. Designed to appeal to anyone with an interest in Liverpool history, art, sculpture, social history and town planning, this session includes a city walk to finish. 1 Course Leader Dr Lee Kendall CRN 28164/HIST000 Course FeesCourse Fee: Standard Fee: £55 Click this link for information on our fee bands and further enrolment information - Fee bands
