DescriptionThe UK Vector-Borne Diseases (VBD) Conference is a national meeting bringing together researchers, clinicians, public health professionals, policy-makers, government agencies and other stakeholders working on vector-borne diseases affecting humans, animals and plants. These diseases are increasing in importance and complexity due to environmental change, expanding vector populations and growing interactions between human, animal and ecological systems. Building on previous highly successful meetings, the 2026 conference provides a platform to present new findings, discuss current challenges, share methods and strengthen the UK community working on vectors and vector-borne pathogens. The meeting welcomes scientists at all career stages. Whats New for 2026: The 2026 conference introduces an expanded, interdisciplinary format reflecting Defra and UKRI's increased cross-sector focus. This includes two new half-day breakout sessions: •Social Sciences breakout session led by Dr Beth Purse (CEH) covering behavioural, societal, economic and policy dimensions of vector-borne disease risk and response. •Clinical and Public Health Epidemiology breakout session led by Dr Gillian Armstrong (UKHSA) focusing on surveillance, health protection, diagnostics and clinical aspects of vector-borne infections. The conference will also include an extended session marking the conclusion of the UKRI/Defra One Health for VBDs programme.
