Introduction to Italian Language and Culture (Wednesday 1-3pm)

Description

Introduction to Language and Culture is a short course for complete beginners or those with very little knowledge of the language. The overall aim is to familiarise yourself with the written and spoken language as well as to learn to navigate most common everyday situations and to interact, very basically, in social situations. Students will have a chance to learn about cultural issues and current affairs in the target language communities. By the end of this module students will be able to read and understand very basic conversations about familiar, everyday topics and will have a general understanding of most basic social interaction rules and norms in the communities of the target language. Classes are taught by lecturers from the University of Liverpool, and you will be registered as a student of the University.

Introduction to Italian Language and Culture (Wednesday 6-8pm)

Description

This course has been designed with a focus on speaking activities. It is aimed at students who have already some knowledge of Italian at beginners’ and elementary level (A1/A2) and it will be a revision of the main topics covered at these levels, offering extra practice and opportunities to consolidate content, develop vocabulary and focus on pronunciation and fluency, whilst learning about Italy and its culture. On completion of the course, students will:

  1. have consolidate a basic competence in speaking Italian
    2. have been provided with introduction to the culture and society of Italian and Italian speaking countries.
    3. have further developed some intercultural understanding.

Description

It is aimed at students who have already some knowledge of Italian at intermediate and advanced level (B1/B2) and it will be a revision of the topics generally covered at these levels, offering extra practice and opportunities to consolidate content, develop vocabulary and focus on pronunciation and fluency, whilst learning about Italy and its culture. On completion of the course, students will:

  1. have developed an intermediate to advanced competence in speaking Italian,
  2. have been provided with a deeper insight into the culture and society of Italy and Italian speaking countries.
  3. will have developed a deeper understanding of intercultural issues.

SYLLABUS

Week 1: Famiglia oggi: discussing gender roles and new family models;

Week 2: Città o campagna: expressing and justifying different points of view;

Week 3: Letteratura: describing the plot of a novel, learning about Italian authors;

Week 4 Italia da scoprire: learning about Italian cities and art.
