Presented by Jenny Walker and Kathryn Mayo of The Implant Educators, this session combines focused theory with hands-on instrumentation practice, covering air polishing, piezo, hand instrumentation and probing. 

With dental implants now a routine part of clinical practice, confident recognition of peri-implant health and disease, and evidence-based maintenance, has never mattered more. We're grateful to NSK for supporting the practical workshop element.

Course Description

Aim: With the increasing prevalence of dental implants in clinical practice, it is essential that clinicians are confident in recognising peri-implant tissue health and disease, selecting appropriate instrumentation, and understanding evidence-based maintenance protocols. This session combines focused theory with hands-on practical experience to support effective patient care and improve long-term implant longevity.

Learning Objectives:

· Understand the anatomical and biological differences between periodontal and peri-implant tissues

· Recognise and classify peri-implant health, peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis

· Select appropriate instruments based on peri-implant diagnosis and implant surface considerations

· Demonstrate safe and effective peri-implant instrumentation techniques

· Understand the importance of maintenance protocols in long-term implant success

Session 1 — Theory Lecture (1hr 15m) - Foundations of peri-implant anatomy, tissue biology and diagnostic classification.

Coffee Break (15m) Refreshments provided

Session 2 — Theory & Practical Workshop (1hr 15m) - Hands-On Instrumentation: air polishing, piezo, hand instrumentation and probing.

Questions & Discussion - Open forum with the lecturers.
