Course Description

Psychedelic visual arts were closely associated with music of the late 1960s. The swirling, hallucinogenic imagery seen on record covers and posters was also visible in fashions, posters and other media associated with the era. Looking at the social and cultural backdrop to psychedelia, this session considers how the imagery articulates key concerns of youth culture at the time. Through an analysis of individual examples of psychedelic design and media, you are invited to explore the revolutionary political, social and spiritual sentiments of the era. There will be a lecture and interactive seminar session where you can look at specific examples of your choice, so bring your smart phone or tablet to get the most out of the session.
