Course Description

Disease of the canine salivary glands ranges from ‘easy to diagnose/hard to treat’ to ‘frankly confusing in all regards’. This practical workshop allows diagnoses to be demystified as well as providing crucial cadaver-based surgical practice to allow clinical cases to be approached with confidence.

This one-day practical course begins with an overview of salivary gland anatomy and function, moving on to present the different disorders of canine salivary glands. This is followed by a highly practical cadaver-based wetlab session where delegates can practice surgery of the salivary glands with the support of attending tutors.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the workshop delegates will be able to

·         Describe the anatomy of canine salivary glands

·         Explain the aetiopathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of common canine salivary gland disorders

·         Perform sublingual and mandibular sialadenectomy for management of cervical mucocoele

·         Perform parotid sialadenectomy
