Physiotherapy Masterclass on the Equine Back and Pelvis

In November 2026 we will be offering a Physiotherapy Masterclass on the Equine Back and Pelvis, aimed at both qualified Physiotherapists* and Equine Clinicians looking to refresh their knowledge of the assessment and treatment options available in this common area of practice. The weeks will focus on revising back and pelvis pathology before reviewing current approaches to diagnosis, assessment and initial management from both professional perspectives. Common clinical cases and the principles behind their rehabilitation will be addressed in week 5, and the over-arching theme throughout the module will be one of professional collaboration and the ‘team approach’ to maximise clinical outcomes

This fully online CPD mini-module is tailored for professionals wishing to enhance, develop and consolidate their clinical knowledge and understanding in this area. 25 hours of CPD will be delivered across 4 weeks in a fun and interactive way, with online lectures, discussion boards, weekly MCQ tests and 2 live case-based Zoom meetings available to support your learning. Participants will gain access to the University of Liverpool online Library for the remainder of the current academic year, allowing easy access to evidence-based research in their chosen clinical fields.

• Neuromuscular control in the horse - Where neuromuscular function and orthopaedics meet.

Week 2: 9th November – Current Veterinary Diagnosis and Initial Treatment with Cajsa Isgren

• Veterinary diagnostic approaches to equine back and pelvis disorders
• Veterinary treatment options 
• Teams Meeting: Monday 16^th November at 8pm UK time – A 1 hour, case-based discussion looking at the veterinary approach to equine back and pelvis rehabilitation

Week 3: 16th November – Break Week

Week 4: 23rd November – The Teamwork Approach to Rehabilitation with Cathy McGowan and Lesley Goff

• How a combined vet-physio approach can improve patient outcomes and neuromuscular control in the horse – Cathy McGowan
• Rehabilitation of equine back pain: a physiotherapeutic approach focusing on neuromuscular control – Lesley Goff

Week 5: 30th November – Rehabilitation Principles In Practice with Katie Meredith

• Physiotherapy assessment and treatment principles of the conservatively managed and post-surgical case – Katie Meredith
• Teams Meeting: Tuesday 1^st December at 8pm UK time – A 1 hour, case-based discussion looking at the physiotherapy approach to equine back and pelvis rehabilitation – Cathy McGowan & Lesley Goff
