Course DescriptionWelcome to our exciting course on Pre-Raphaelitism! Formed in London in 1848, the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood aimed to revolutionise British art. Did you know Liverpool played a crucial role in this movement? The Liverpool Academy awarded annual prizes to leading Pre-Raphaelite artists, making it the only provincial town with its own Pre-Raphaelite school. This course delves into the work of Liverpool's Pre-Raphaelite artists, such as William Windus and James Campbell, exploring their connection to the original London Brotherhood. You'll learn about the role of Liverpool within Pre-Raphaelitism and gain insights into the art and artists of the Liverpool Pre-Raphaelite School. Designed for anyone interested in art, particularly Victorian art and the Pre-Raphaelites, this course requires no prior knowledge—just a passion for exploring and discussing art. Join us to discover the key aspects and tenets of Pre-Raphaelitism and understand its significance within the Victorian art scene.
