Introduction to German Language and Culture (Tuesday 1-3pm)

Description

Introduction to Language and Culture is a short course for complete beginners or those with very little knowledge of the language. The overall aim is to familiarise yourself with the written and spoken language as well as to learn to navigate most common everyday situations and to interact, very basically, in social situations. Students will have a chance to learn about cultural issues and current affairs in the target language communities. By the end of this module students will be able to read and understand very basic conversations about familiar, everyday topics and will have a general understanding of most basic social interaction rules and norms in the communities of the target language. Classes are taught by lecturers from the University of Liverpool, and you will be registered as a student of the University.

Introduction to German Language and Culture ( Thursday 10-12pm)

Description

In this course, you will have the opportunity to revise some of the themes you have covered in beginners and elementary German and broaden the knowledge you have gained so far. The focus lies on developing and supporting your speaking skills, so we will work on improving your pronunciation and fluency as well as your range of vocabulary and useful phrases. At the end of the four weeks, you will be able to interact and communicate more confidently in simple ways in a short social context around familiar topics in German. You will be able to give information about yourself and descriptions of people and contexts important to you. Furthermore, you will be able to give a short presentation in German and participate in a brief debate about familiar topics.

Topics will include: personal information, family and friends, travelling and interesting places, hobbies, cultural traditions and current affairs.

Intermediate German Language and Culture (Tuesday 6-8pm)

Description

The focus of this intermediate-advanced German language course lies on the enhancement of your conversational skills. We will discuss personal, social and current issues using formal and informal discussions, presentations and role-plays. Cultural awareness will be further developed through the use of authentic material.

To make this course a success, please revise B1 and B2 grammar and vocabulary before the start of the course.

Overview of the syllabus for the 4 weeks. A selection from the following, depending on the level and interests of the class:

* The German speaking countries (D-A-CH)
* Current politics /topics of discussions
* Food, hobbies and points of interest
* Arts (music, literature, film, art, cultural heritage)
