Course Description

Are you happy with your diagnostic approach to the complicated lameness case? How much does clinical examination and dynamic assessment of the lame horse really tell us? Do you want to hone your intra-articular nerve block technique? How useful are manipulative tests in complex cases? How do you progress when you have seemingly exhausted your blocking repertoire? (How) can objective lameness assessment help in your diagnostic work ups?

This comprehensive one-day course will provide you with the skills for advancing your diagnostic approach to the lame horse beyond a palmar digital nerve block (although we can hone your technique on that too!). This interactive workshop focuses on examination and diagnostic approach to the lame horse using a combination of comprehensive lectures, collaborative case discussion and hands-on practical sessions.

Case discussions with course tutors will focus on collaborative dialogue of clinical cases illustrated by videos and will incorporate many of the challenges associated with lameness evaluation. There will also be an opportunity to perfect a variety of peri-neural and intra-articular blocks in the fully interactive hands-on wet-lab sessions guided by specialists in orthopaedics.

This inclusive workshop is structured to be suitable for delegates working towards an RCVS Cert AVP at all module levels but is also equally useful for those wishing to refresh their knowledge and skills in equine lameness, or for those who would like to take on a more active role in lameness diagnosis in their practice. This course is also designed as a clinical refresher for those equine vets returning to diagnostic lameness evaluations after a career break.
