Gamma Rays: Detection and Modelling

The aim of this module is to give delegates a practical and theoretical knowledge of gamma ray detection using scintillation, semiconductor and gas detectors. Delegates will also learn to use a modelling code to predict detector perfpormance.

Course Description

This module is aimed at those working in the nuclear industry and in any industrial sector where there is a requirement for radiation detection. Delegates are likely to be early/mid-career and seeking progression. By the end of the course delegates will have detailed knowledge of, the interaction of gamma rays with materials - both solid and gas, scintillation principles and different types of scintillator - both organic and inorganic, semiconductor detectors and the different types of semiconductors, detctor geometry and high resolution spectroscopy for x-rays and gamma-rays.
