The General Medical Council require that all of those who are engaged in training undergraduates or postgraduates are appropriately trained.

This two-day course will ensure that participants will be able to demonstrate compliance with the standards the GMC require for educational supervisors, and be able to apply, should they so wish, for Membership of the Academy of Medical Educators.

This is a condensed form of one of the postgraduate modules (MDSC172, 20 credits) that we run as part of our provision of postgraduate education within the School of Medicine and we are applying for certification of this course as a 5 credit unit under the University of Liverpool’s postgraduate framework.  Participants will be able to continue their studies, if they so wish to obtain a postgraduate certificate in Medical Education, or a Master of Science in Medicine, Surgery or Medical Education.

In preparation for the 2-day course, participants will need to complete a portfolio on-line, in which they will describe their current educational activity, and be encouraged to reflect upon how their current activity demonstrates that they meet the standards required by the GMC.  During the course we will identify areas for further development, and help participants strengthen their portfolio.

Day one is aimed at those who have not received clinical supervisor training in the last two years, and reaches that standard.
Day one and day two are designed to ensure that the participants reach the standards required for recognition as an educational supervisor. Anyone who has been trained as a clinical supervisor within the past two years need not attend day one
