The greatest achievement in physics would be a theory describing all fundamental particles and the four forces interacting between them. In one hand we have a quantum theory called the Standard Model of particle physics, describing all the known fundamental particles and the three forces: electromagnetism, strong force and weak force. In the other hand we have a classical theory for the remaining force gravity, which is described by Einstein’s general relativity. These two theories are reluctant to shake hands; it is difficult to combine them into a single theory, a ‘Theory of Everything’. We shall explore some theories that aim to solve this problem, discuss any new particles these theories predict and if they could be discovered using the LHC at CERN.
