Description

James I was a Scottish Presbyterian, his son a High Churchman whose religious policies provoked Civil War.  After the experiment of the Commonwealth, Charles II returned as a nominal Anglican but secret Catholic.  His brother James made no attempt to hide his Catholicism, but his daughters Mary and Anne restored the Anglican way in an age of emerging limited toleration. This course explores the issues in this tumultuous period.
