Growing up in Liverpool to Irish parents, James Hanley's connection to Merseyside is indisputable. He led a colourful early life including running away to sea during the First World War, before returning to the City and eventually embarking on what was to become a prodigious writing career encompassing novels, short stories and plays. Join us for this 5-week course as we explore references to Liverpool in four works of this overlooked writer, much of it inspired by the City’s changing social and economic landscape.
