This five-week course looks at the Middle East since the 1970s. We examine the Iranian Revolution, Israel-Palestine, Lebanese civil war, Iran-Iraq conflict and the Gulf Wars. We bring things right up to date by considering political Islam, oil interests, Western imperial concerns, the ‘Arab Spring’, Syrian Civil War, ISIS/Daesh, the Yemen and the prospects for change in the region.
